
Leona Louise Lewis was born 3 April 1985. She is an actress, singer, and activist from Britain. Born and raised in Islington, a part of the London Borough of Islington, she was a student at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology located in Croydon. Lewis gained national attention when she won The X factor's third season in the year 2006. She also received an PS1 Million recording contract from Syco Music. The winning single, which was an original cover of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment like This" reached the top spot for several weeks on the UK Singles Chart and broke records in the world by achieving the milestone of 50,000 downloads in just 30 minutes. In February 2007 Lewis has signed a deal for five albums with the United States with Clive Davis's label, J Records. The success of Lewis continued after the announcement of her first studio album, Spirit (2007), which received a platinum certification of 10x in the UK as well as becoming the fourth best-selling album of the 2000s , and also one of the top-selling albums of UK chart the history of chart. Spirit According to Official Charts Company is the greatest-selling debut album of a female artist. The lead single, "Bleeding Love", spent seven weeks at number first in UK and was the best-selling single of the year. The track was the highest-seller in 2008, and Lewis won an award for her work, the Billboard Award for the Most Popular New Artist. Echo was her second studio album. The album also featured the track "I I See You" for Avatar. Lewis' single "Collide," was an collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii and she also released Hurt: the EP, her debut extended performance. Her third studio album, Glassheart (2012), marked a new creative direction for Lewis who draws inspiration from dubstep and electronic music. The Glassheart Tour was in the beginning of 2013, as she began to record material to record her first Christmas album. The Christmas album, with Love came out in the latter half of 2013. Its lead single One More Sleep was a top 3 hit on the charts in the UK. Lewis, an British female solo artist, made history by becoming the first female artist to reach the top 5 with eight singles. This is more than Olivia Newton John's record which contained seven songs.
